Learned after 3 rolls that I was loading my film wrong the whole time

I was at a park in Portland shooting my buddy's dog when he asked why my roll only got 12 shots instead of 24. I shrugged it off until I got home and counted the negatives, and sure enough half the roll was blank at the start. Turns out I wasn't seating the leader deep enough in the take up spool, so it would rip loose and I'd just keep cranking. I pulled out my old shots from 6 rolls ago and saw the same gaps on the first few frames of each one. Anyone else lose half a roll to a lazy load or am I the only one who never checked?
