Kind of changed my mind about that old thrift store camera I found in Athens, Georgia
I picked up this beat up Pentax K1000 at a thrift store in Athens for $15. It had a dent in the top plate and the light meter was dead, so I figured it was just a shelf decoration at best. Last weekend I finally loaded some cheap Kodak Gold in it and just started shooting blind, guessing exposure based on sunny 16. The first roll came back with maybe 10 usable frames but man, the ones that worked had this weird character I can't get from my newer gear. That dent must have caused some slight light leaks around the film door, gave the shadows a soft orange glow. I guess I always thought old broken cameras were just junk, but now I'm thinking about carrying this thing around more often. Anyone else found a busted camera that actually shoots better because of its flaws?

Load some Portra 800 in that thing, let those leaks get real wild. The K1000 is a tank anyway, meter being dead just means you learn to read light better. My friend found an old Holga with a cracked lens that makes everything look like a dream sequence from the 90s. Imperfect gear forces you to stop pixel peeping and just shoot.
