Bought a bulk roll of expired film from a guy in Fresno, shot the whole thing before realizing my leader was loaded backwards
Shot 36 frames of a friend's birthday at a park in Fresno on a bulk-rolled roll I bought for $2 at a flea market, got the prints back last week and every single frame was blank because I'd taped the leader to the wrong end of the spool, so the film never actually advanced past the gate.
Did you check if the film was even wound tight on the spool before you loaded it? I read a forum post a while back from some old timer who shot bulk rolls for decades, and he said the number one mistake people make is taping the leader on without checking which way the spool spins in the camera first. Apparently the film has to come off the spool the same direction it gets taken up, or you're basically shooting into a brick. He also said expired bulk film can be tricky because the tape job from the seller might already be backwards if they were sloppy. That birthday is gone forever but at least you learned the lesson on a $2 roll instead of a $15 one.
