Ruined a whole roll of Portra 400 at the Grand Canyon last weekend
I was at Mather Point on the South Rim last Saturday and decided to swap my film back in the open instead of walking to the car. A gust of wind kicked up right as I pulled the roll out and I watched a grain of sand work its way into the felt lip. Every shot after frame 12 came back with a thin scratch running through the sky, which is brutal when half the roll was canyon views. Now I carry a changing bag in my day pack no matter what, but I'm wondering if anyone has a better trick for swapping film outdoors when you don't have a wind break.
