Ruined a roll of Ektar 100 at the coast when my changing bag turned into a sauna
Last month I drove out to Cannon Beach, Oregon for a weekend and shot a roll of Ektar 100 on my Pentax K1000. When the roll hit frame 36, I ducked into my car to swap it out and used my changing bag on the passenger seat with the windows up. It was about 80 degrees outside, and inside that bag it felt like a microwave. My hands got sweaty almost right away, and I fumbled the leader while trying to get it onto the spool. When I pulled the film out later, there were fingerprints and these weird light streaks across maybe 8 frames. I nearly pitched the whole roll, but instead I respooled it and dropped it at my lab in Portland, and they said heat plus moisture probably fogged the emulsion. Now I keep a small cooler in the trunk and stick the changing bag inside it for 10 minutes before I load anything. Anyone else had a changing bag go bad on them in the heat, or is it just me?
Check the seal on your bag too. A lot of those cheaper ones leak light slowly and you won't notice until you're in bright sun, which it sounds like you were. Fogging gets blamed on heat a lot but a pinhole in the zipper does the same thing.
