Watched The Mist with a film club. Still mad about that ending.
The Stephen King one, not the 60s movie. At my buddy's apartment in Chicago last March. We all sat through the whole thing. Then the military shows up right after the guy shoots his family. King wrote a way better ending. The movie just wanted to be mean. Anyone else prefer the original story's darker but less cruel finale?

That "rug pulled out from under you" feeling is exactly right. My wife and I watched it when it first came out on DVD, and I remember sitting in silence for a good ten minutes after the credits rolled. It just felt mean-spirited, like the filmmakers wanted to punish us for caring about the characters. King's ending at least let you sit with the dread and mystery instead of just kicking you in the stomach on the way out.

Yeah, no kidding. King's ending was dark in a way that felt earned. The way the mist just keeps going, the radio signals, that hint of hope but no real answers. You can sit with that for days. The movie just pulls the rug out for shock value. It doesn't make you think, it just makes you feel sick. Missed the whole point.
