Unpopular opinion: The Dark Knight should have ended 10 minutes sooner
I was riding the bus home from work in Minneapolis last Tuesday and this guy behind me was telling his friend that the Two-Face stuff at the end of The Dark Knight feels tacked on. At first I rolled my eyes because that movie is basically sacred to me. But then I rewatched it that night and honestly he had a point. The ferry scene feels like a perfect ending, the Joker hangs there laughing, Batman takes the fall for the boats and rides off. Roll credits, 10 out of 10, done. But then we get another 15 minutes of Two-Face flipping his coin in a building and it kind of deflates the whole thing for me now. So I started thinking, what would you cut to make it land better? Do you keep the Two-Face stuff and cut something earlier instead, or does the movie really need that last act to pay off Harvey's arc? I keep going back and forth on this one.
