Shoutout to the ending of 'The Graduate' for making me think about a different path
I watched it again last night and realized Ben could have just gotten on the bus with Elaine and sat down. The movie cuts on their faces going from joy to doubt, but what if it kept going? They ride for ten minutes in total silence, then she just asks for her ring back. He gets off at the next stop in Pasadena, alone, with fifty bucks in his pocket. It feels more true to how that kind of crazy plan actually ends. Anyone ever rewrite an ending that felt more real than the original?

Forget the quiet doubt... the real tragedy is him trying to buy a bus ticket back with that fifty bucks and finding out it costs fifty-two. He's just stuck there in Pasadena, watching the bus drive away, with two dollars in his pocket for a sad cup of coffee. That's the real ending they don't show you.

Wait, he only had fifty bucks left? That's the real horror right there. I didn't remember that part, but man, that changes everything. Getting off a bus broke in a random town is way worse than just some quiet doubt.
