Just realized the Titanic ending I always wanted would have ruined the whole movie

For years I wanted Rose to shove Jack onto that door too. But after rewatching it last month I finally got why he stays in the water. That door can only hold one person without tipping and if they both tried it would sink. It hit me that the real ending is about her choosing to live for him not with him. Does anyone else have a movie ending they wished for until they actually thought through the logistics?

Hear you on the door getting heavier as it soaked up water, never even thought about that. But here's something that bugs me still. If the wood was already waterlogged and sitting low, why didn't it tip or snap when Rose climbed on it? She had to haul herself up and that's a lot of sudden weight on a piece of wood that's already been floating for hours. Especially with her wet clothes and the waves hitting it. Seems like the door either should have flipped or cracked right then, not held steady while Jack froze.

You mentioned wanting Rose to shove Jack onto that door, and I hear you. But heres something I never see anyone talk about. The door is made of wooden paneling from the ship, probably oak or mahogany with brass fittings. In my experience working with materials, that kind of wood soaks up water fast and gets heavier over time. By the time Jack was freezing, that door was probably already sitting lower in the water than it was when Rose first climbed on. If he had tried to get on later, it would have sunk for sure. The ending is sad but it makes sense when you think about how the physics change over those hours.
