Just had a wild chat about the ending of 'The Dark Knight' with a guy at the hardware store.
He was buying paint and said the movie should have ended with Harvey Dent's death being public, forcing Batman to take the blame for real, not just as a cover-up. It made me think about how that would change the whole feel of the next movie. What's your best 'what if' ending for a Nolan film?

That hardware store guy missed the point. The whole cover-up is what makes the ending work. If Dent's crimes went public, Gotham loses its hope and the Joker wins anyway. Batman taking the fall is the only real sacrifice, a permanent solution. It sets up the next movie perfectly by making him a true outlaw. A public scandal would just be more chaos, not a heroic lie.
