I finally sat through all 3 hours of that indie film at the little theater on 4th Street

Paid $14 for a ticket and another $8 on popcorn only to have the main character die off screen in the last 5 minutes with zero explanation. The whole theater just sat there in silence like we'd been robbed of our time. Has anyone else ever walked out of a movie feeling like the director just gave up on purpose?

Next time check the runtime on Letterboxd before you go. Also ask the person at the counter if the ending is weird or satisfying, they usually know. Saved me from a few of those "artsy" traps already.

...and that's exactly why I stopped trusting indie films that get hyped up. You pay good money, settle in with your overpriced popcorn, and then the director pulls some artsy nonsense like killing the main character off screen with zero payoff. It's not deep or clever, it's lazy. I had a similar thing happen with a movie called "The Nothing" where the whole plot just stopped 20 minutes early and faded to black. Felt like the guy ran out of funding and just said "screw it, that's the ending." At least with a big studio film you know what you're getting, even if it's cheesy. Indie movies just make me feel like I'm being punk'd half the time.
