I finally clocked why the diner scene in that heist flick bugs me so much
I rewatched Heat last week for the third time and finally caught it: the big diner talk between Pacino and De Niro happens right before the crew hits the bank, but nothing in that scene changes what either guy does after. So I started sketching an ending where the diner talk happens first, Waingro never gets his ride, and the crew makes a clean run to the airfield. Then Neil and Vincent still end up on that runway, and honestly it hurts more that way. Am I nuts for thinking the movie works better if the one scene where they connect is the thing that wrecks them both?
