Ending Titanic with Jack on the door, was that actually better?

I watched Titanic again last night and got stuck thinking about the ending where Jack dies. The original has him freeze while Rose survives on the door, which is sad but it pushes her to live a full life. But what if Rose pulled him up and they both made it? Then the whole story shifts to survival guilt and a normal marriage, maybe they divorce in the 20s or something. Which version do you think holds up stronger emotionally, and would the movie still be a classic if Jack lived? Has anyone else debated this with friends or seen a fan edit that changes it?
