Why does nobody talk about how quiet panels got between 2005 and now?
Was at a supply counter in Toledo last week and a young guy next to me said he'd never touched a panel that didn't do self diagnostics. That hit me. My first installs, we were still walking every zone with a handheld and a clipboard, and now the board just tells you which loop is dragging. Do you guys miss the old test and verify routine or is auto reporting just better?
Watched a guy troubleshoot a ground fault last month by scrolling through event logs instead of pulling out his meter, and he found it in ten minutes. Took me three hours on a similar call back in 2008 because I had to ohm out every device on the loop by hand. The part nobody mentions is that we used to learn the building wiring by walking it, and now the new guys can clear a fault without ever knowing where the junction boxes actually sit. That muscle memory is drying up, and it'll bite us when the diagnostics themselves fail.
