Walked into a bank branch on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie and their ancient panel made me smile
Stopped at a bank branch on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie last week to deal with a check issue and while I was waiting I spotted their alarm keypad on the wall by the teller line. It was an old Ademco unit, one of those big beige boxes with the flip down door, and the thing looked like it hadn't been touched since the 90s but the little green light was still blinking away. I asked the branch manager how long it had been there and she laughed and said longer than she'd worked there, which was 19 years. What got me was the wiring, they had a conduit run coming down from the ceiling that somebody had clearly added on later, and it was done so neat you could eat off it. Whoever ran that pipe cared way more than they had to, especially in a bank where nobody would ever see it. I started wondering how many of these old workhorse panels are still out there running daily after 25 or 30 years, and whether the installers who put them in are still in the trade. Any of you got a customer with a system that old that just refuses to die?
