Serious question, do you charge for the first walk-through on a takeover panel job?
Had a rough Tuesday in Vancouver where a guy wanted me to quote a takeover on a 20 year old DSC panel and I spent 90 minutes tracing old wiring and finding 2 dead zones before I even gave him a number. He went with another company that quoted him flat over the phone, and I'm out a full afternoon. Half of me says never step foot on site without a $75 diagnostic fee, other half says that scares off the jobs that actually pay. How do you all handle takeovers when the old panel is a mess, do you eat the first trip or bill it?
