Ran zip tied wires on one job and stapled them on another, and the staple gun won
I did two panel swaps last week, one at a house in Bellevue where I zip tied everything neat in the attic and one in Renton where I just hit the studs with the staple gun like always. The zip tie job looked cleaner but the inspector flagged 3 spots where the wire could rub on the truss, and the stapled run passed with zero notes and took me half the time. Am I the only one who thinks neat cable work is weirdly overrated if it means more chances for something to rub?

Rubbing on a truss is one of those things inspectors love to flag but I've never actually seen a wire fail from it. NM cable sitting against wood in an attic isn't going anywhere unless something is actively moving or cutting into it. The zip tie job "looks" better but if you pulled it tight against the truss in three spots that's on the zip ties, not the neatness itself. Fast is fast though, and a clean pass with zero notes beats pretty cable any day.
