My uncle said to always use a 22/4 wire for keypad runs, even on short ones.
He was a tech for 30 years and swore by it, saying the extra pair saved him on callbacks. I tried it on a job in Springfield last year where the client later added a second keypad, and it was a breeze. Anyone else have a simple rule they were given that paid off big later?

Oh man, that extra pair has saved me more times than I can count. Had a job where the customer decided to move their keypad three feet down the wall after the wire was already in, and that spare pair meant I didn't have to pull new cable. Feels like one of those rules that seems overkill until you're in a tight spot.

Ever run into a situation where that extra pair was useless?

Yeah, what good is a backup if it fails the same way as the first one? I had a pair of cheap headphones where the spare cable had the exact same loose connection issue. Felt like they just boxed up the same flawed part twice. Makes you wonder if some companies even test the extras they include.
