I argued with a guy about using shielded cable for a long run, and he was totally right
This installer from a different company told me at a supply house that I should always use shielded 22/4 for runs over 150 feet, especially near fluorescent lights. I thought it was overkill and told him so. Well, I did a job in an old warehouse last month with 200-foot runs and got constant false alarms on the motion sensors. I swapped in the shielded cable he mentioned, and the problem vanished completely. Has anyone else found a specific distance where unshielded cable just starts causing trouble?

Oh yeah, evan_anderson I think that "150 feet" thing actually lines up with real world interference pretty well. Once you get past that distance, the capacitance in the wire starts acting up and picking up noise from ballasts and stuff.
