Customer at a Beaverton walkthrough asked why I put a keypad by the back door, and his reason made more sense than mine
I was wiring a panel in Beaverton last month and the homeowner asked why I always put a keypad at the back door instead of just the garage entry. I gave him my usual answer about the shortest path in, but he pointed out that his wife comes in that way with groceries and both kids follow right behind. It hit me that I've been placing keypads where it's easy to run wire, not where people actually walk in every day. Since that job I've started asking customers to walk me through their normal evening routine and I sketch the keypad spots after that. On a 3-bed ranch last week the front hall ended up being the wrong spot and the laundry room door was correct. The change adds maybe 20 minutes to the walkthrough but the callbacks have dropped off. Are you all asking about daily traffic patterns first, or still mapping it from the panel outward?
