Blew a zone on a Friday install in Mesa and had to eat the cost
I was finishing a 12-zone panel swap in a two-story in Mesa last Friday when I nicked a bedroom window sensor wire with my drywall saw and killed the whole zone. I stopped, rang the homeowner, admitted the damage, and reran the wire through the attic instead of trying to hide a splice behind the trim. Do you guys keep spare 22/2 on the truck for this exact mess, or do you buy it per job?
Used to grab whatever roll was left at the supply house and hope for the best, but that bit me more than once. Ran out mid-zone on a job in Gilbert and had to drive 20 minutes back for a $25 roll while the homeowner watched the clock. Now I keep two spare rolls of 22/2 and a box of 22/4 on the truck at all times. Costs a little up front but it saves way more in lost time and dumb mistakes.
