Warning: I was cleaning a Cessna 172's fuel tank in Phoenix and almost used the wrong solvent

For a long time, I'd just grab whatever general degreaser was around for cleaning out fuel sumps and tanks. Last week, an old mechanic at the shop saw me and told me to only use MIL-PRF-680, which is made for that job. He said the wrong stuff can leave a film that messes with fuel sensors. Has anyone else had a sensor go bad from a bad tank clean?

Glad you got that warning in time.

Yeah, I always thought those alerts were overkill until last Tuesday. My phone buzzed with a flash flood warning for Maple Street, and I was two blocks away. Turned around and saw the whole underpass fill up in minutes. Completely changed how I see those notifications now.

Can't believe you were that close to the underpass... those alerts really do give you just enough time to get out of the way. It's scary how fast things can change. Makes me want to pay more attention to my own phone.
