Unpopular opinion: I picked re-threading over a new stud and it held
Had a 3/8 bolt hole on a wing spar fitting at a job in Wichita last month that was chewed up just past the first few threads. I had two options: drill and tap to the next size up with a bigger fastener, or run a thread insert. I went with the insert since the bigger bolt would have needed a new clearance hole in the bracket too. Torqued it to spec, did a pull check, and it's been holding fine at 500 hours. Curious what you all would have done here, since my lead was pushing hard for the oversize hole.
