Remember when hangars had actual tool rooms?

I was working a 1997 Cessna 172 last Wednesday. Needed a 9/16 ratcheting wrench. Walked to the tool room like always. Found a padlock on the door. Manager said they switched to a shadow board system to save money. Spent 40 minutes hunting for my own 9/16. Never even found one. Had to borrow from the kid on B shift. Has anyone else's shop gone cheap on you like that?

Man, that's rough. Padlocking the tool room is just asking for trouble. Our shop switched to a shadow board system three years back. Total joke. Half the tools are missing within a week because some guys just pocket them instead of walking ten feet to put them back. Ended up buying my own 9/16 and 1/2 inch ratcheting wrenches just to get through the day.

Buddy of mine had the same problem, @william320. His shop went to a tool box sign-out sheet. Thought it'd fix everything. But guys would just grab whatever and never bother to sign out. After a week, the sheet was blank and half the tools were missing. He spent his own cash on a socket set too. Kept it locked in his personal locker. Only way to survive.
