Old timer at the hangar told me to skip torque seals on filter housings
Been doing it for years with no issues until a safety audit flagged me last Tuesday for missing seals on three engines. Anybody else ever get called out for skipping something that seemed harmless?

Did the auditor explain why it actually matters or just cite procedure?

That 15 year old Cessna 172 I used to work on had a filter housing where the previous guy cross-threaded the bolt and the seal was just for show anyway. Charles_kim brings up a good point though, because that auditor didn't just cite the missing seals, he showed me photos of oil weeping past the housing on two of those engines over time. Was there any actual leakage or failure history tied to the engines that got flagged, or was this a pure zero-tolerance call from the audit team?
