Found out the average lifespan of a turbine blade while waiting on parts

I was stuck in the break room at Atlantic Aviation last Tuesday waiting for a shipment and started flipping through an old engine manual someone left on the table. Turns out those first-stage turbine blades only last about 3,000 flight cycles before they get swapped out, which is way shorter than I thought for something that spins at 10,000 RPM. Has anyone else stumbled across a random stat in a manual that totally changed how you look at a part?

3,000 cycles sounds about right actually. I had a similar moment digging through a Pratt & Whitney manual years ago and saw the recommended oil change interval on a PT6 is way shorter than most pilots think. The stat that stuck with me was that a single chip in a gear tooth can cut the life of a bearing by like 40% so now I always check for metal particles in the oil filter myself before signing off. Next time you're stuck waiting, grab a copy of the AC 43.13-1B if they have one sitting around, it's got all kinds of random numbers like that.
