Found out most turbine blades aren't replaced at every overhaul like I thought
I was reading through a Pratt & Whitney maintenance manual last week and it said many CFM56-7B turbine blades can run for 20,000 cycles before mandatory replacement. I always figured you swapped them out at every shop visit like filters or seals. Turns out they just inspect and blend out minor nicks unless the damage is over a certain threshold. Has anyone else found a common assumption about engine parts that turned out to be wrong?
