Honestly, how bad can it really be? Most of the time it's just surface stuff that looks scary. Unless you're flying the thing tomorrow, a little spot under the paint isn't a crisis. People get way too worried about perfection.

Yeah, that "just surface stuff" idea is how you end up with a real problem later. I mean, a little spot can hide a lot of rust you don't see. It's better to check it out properly.

So what's the trick then? I mean, I could probably use some help with that, my own projects are basically just me guessing and hoping I don't make a hole. Maybe it's just me but I feel like finding hidden problems is my hidden talent, but not in a good way. I always find them way too late, after I've already made a big mess.
