Am I the only one who ditched the torque wrench on brake jobs and just goes by feel now
For 8 years I snapped a click type on every caliper bolt until an old timer at a shop in Wichita told me he has not used one on brakes since the 90s and just snugs by hand. I have done it his way for the last 6 months with zero comebacks, but it still feels weird every time, so how do you all handle caliper bolts?

Man, this is the same thing that happens everywhere once you get enough time doing a thing. People start out glued to the book, then after years of reps their hands just know. It's like a cook who stops measuring salt or a carpenter who eyeballs a cut, the tool was training wheels and at some point your wrist learned the feel. But here's the thing that bugs me, a click wrench doesn't lie and your arm does, especially on a Monday morning or after a rough night. I still grab mine for the caliper bracket bolts since those see real heat cycles, but the slide pins and the little stuff I do by hand now. It felt wrong to me too for a while, and then one day it just didn't anymore.
