Warning: my air fryer caught fire because I lined the basket with parchment paper wrong

So I was making chicken wings in my kitchen in Chicago last Tuesday. I put parchment paper in the basket to keep cleanup easy, but I didn't weigh it down with food first. The fan sucked the paper up into the heating element and it started smoking and then actually caught fire. I grabbed the basket with an oven mitt and tossed it in the sink. Scared me pretty bad. Anyone else had something dumb like this happen with accessories in the air fryer?

Puddle of goo" pretty much sums up my level of kitchen sophistication right there. I bet your meltdown was way less dramatic than my fire, though. At least you didn't have to explain to the fire department why your air fryer smelled like a burnt offering. Next time I'm just letting my chicken wings drip all over the place, cleanup be damned.
