Saw a tip to flip chicken halfway through air frying instead of shaking. Tried it on some drumsticks last night.

I always just shook the basket for even cooking but the flipping trick gave way crispier skin on the bottom side. The problem was the drumsticks were stacking a bit and not getting heat underneath. Anyone else find shaking doesn't cut it for certain cuts?

Yeah the "shaking" advice is pretty overrated for stuff like drumsticks. I had the same problem where the skin on the bottom would stay soggy even after shaking a few times mid cook. The stacking thing is real though, you gotta lay them in a single layer with space between each one or the heat just bounces off the top ones. What temp and time did you run yours at?

Friend of mine tried the shaking trick too and it didn't do squat for his wings. He was pissed because he followed every video tutorial exactly. Ended up flipping them individually with tongs halfway through and that finally got the bottoms crispy. He also started patting them bone dry with paper towels before seasoning and that made a bigger difference than anything. Said the air fryer is basically a convection oven with a fan and if you crowd it you're just steaming everything instead of crisping. So yeah single layer with space is the real secret, not the shaking gimmick.
