My mom's old pressure cooker comment got me thinking about air fryers

I was talking to my mom last Sunday about Sunday dinners and she said our air fryer is just a fancy convection oven with a timer. At first I wanted to argue, but then I thought about how we use it for everything from frozen fries to reheating pizza. She grew up with a stovetop pressure cooker and swears nothing beats it for beans. I guess every generation has their own shortcut tool, we just plug ours in. Has anyone else had a family member dismiss the air fryer as a gimmick, but then secretly ask you to make them something in it?
