My frozen fries used to be a soggy mess until I tried something different

I always just dumped the bag straight into the basket and they came out limp. About 3 weeks ago, I saw a tip to soak them in cold water for 10 minutes and pat them dry first. Now they get super crispy every single time, like proper restaurant style. Has anyone else tried this trick with other frozen veggies?

Wait, you SOAK them? Honestly I can't get past that part, I always thought water was the enemy of crispy fries. Tbh it sounds like it would make them mushy before they even hit the oil.

Trust me @reese_thompson74, soaking fries is like a lot of things where the weird first step is actually the secret.

Water is the enemy of crispy fries" - that's what I thought too until I actually tried it. @drew791 is onto something with the soak because it washes off the starch, so they actually get crunchier in the oil. Have you ever tested it side by side with a batch you didn't soak?
