Found out frozen fries need way less oil than I thought
I was making frozen fries in my air fryer for the third time this week, trying to get them crisp. I kept adding a tablespoon of oil like the bag said. Then I saw a video from a cooking channel where the host said most frozen fries are already pre-fried at the factory. They said you only need a light spray, maybe half a teaspoon total, because the air fryer just needs to re-crisp them. I tried it with a bag of store brand crinkle cuts and it worked perfectly. The fries were just as crispy but not greasy at all. I even weighed the bag before and after to check, and it was only about 5 grams lighter, meaning most of the oil was already there. Has anyone else tried cutting the oil way back on frozen stuff? What brand works best for you with almost no added fat?

My air fryer manual actually says to skip oil completely for most frozen fries. I tested it with Ore-Ida golden crinkles and they came out fine, just a quick shake halfway through. The real trick is to not crowd the basket, that makes more difference than any oil. I only use a tiny spritz now if I'm doing sweet potato fries because they seem to dry out faster.
