A guy at the farmers market in Fresno said my air fryer Brussels sprouts were steaming, not roasting, and he was right
I was selling little cups of air fryer Brussels sprouts at a market booth back in June and a guy stopped, ate one, and said "these are steamed, not roasted, you're crowding the basket." I brushed him off at first but then I went home and weighed it out, I had been piling 2 pounds into a 5 quart basket, which is way over the line. I cut it down to about 1 pound per batch, shook them at the 8 minute mark, and ran them at 400 instead of 375. The difference was honestly embarrassing, the edges went dark and crispy instead of just soft and wet. Now I do two batches instead of one and yeah it takes longer but people at the booth actually asked what I did different. Anyone else figure out a max weight per batch for their basket size, or do you just eyeball it?
2 pounds in a 5 quart is wild, I was doing the same thing with my 6 quart and wondering why they came out mushy every time. Once I dropped to about a pound and a half max and shook them halfway, the difference was night and day, those crispy little outer leaves are everything lol. Now I just keep a cheap kitchen scale on the counter so I stop lying to myself about how much is going in.
