Update: The old food court at Riverside Mall smells like damp concrete now

Last month, I finally checked out the abandoned Riverside Mall on the town's outskirts. It was super quiet, with broken floor tiles and layers of dust. I used to go there for arcade games when I was young, but now it's just empty space. What got me was all the faded 'For Lease' signs still hanging in windows. It really shows how tough it is for these spots to get a second life. I walked around for a bit, snapping pics of the vacant shops and sunlight coming through roof holes. It's a mix of sad and pretty, you know? Have you seen other malls in your town end up like this? What do you think about it?

My uncle's hardware store moved into a converted mall space and business tripled. That empty shell could be someone's fresh start.

Ever think these places could just be torn down for something new? I used to believe every old mall should be saved, but seeing one rot like that changed my mind. It's not just sad, it's a waste of good land. Maybe letting go is better than watching them slowly fall apart.

The mall near my old high school sat empty for a decade before they turned it into a community college campus and a health clinic. It wasn't a waste of land, it just needed a new use. Full teardowns are expensive and create tons of landfill waste. Sometimes the best fresh start is using the structure that's already there.
