Trusting a stranger's warning about the Eastland escalator pit kept me out of trouble
Some older guy in a beat-up Eagles jacket stopped me before I went down to the lower level of the abandoned Eastland Mall in Columbus. Said the floor near the old escalator pit had rotted through and a guy he knew went ankle deep through a tile last year. I almost brushed him off, thought he was just trying to scare me for fun. But I poked the edge with my flashlight from the railing and the whole sheet of laminate dipped like wet cardboard. Didn't step another foot past that yellow caution line. Has anyone else gotten a random tip from a local that actually kept you out of a bad drop?
