Took me three trips to figure out the food court in the old Meadowbrook Mall was actually on the second floor the whole time
I kept walking around the ground level looking for the orange chicken place I remembered from 2005 and after like 45 minutes of circling I finally looked up and saw the escalator was hidden behind a giant fake plant.

This is actually a DEEPLY relatable experience. Old malls have the WORST layouts, like they were designed by people who wanted you to get lost and wander around aimlessly. I bet that fake plant was huge too, probably one of those dusty ones that's been there since 1998. Finding that hidden escalator must have felt like discovering a SECRET LEVEL in a video game. But orange chicken from 2005, man those were the glory days of mall food.

Man, I was just reading about this whole "lost mall" thing and how a lot of those old food courts are literally designed to feel like mazes... I guess it was a trick to get you to walk past more stores. And yeah, those fake plants are always the same dusty, brown-tinted ones from the late 90s. I read somewhere that the old Meadowbrook actually had two escalators at one point but they walled one off and hid the other behind a planter... sounds about right for a place stuck in time.
