The food court fountain at the old Sunrise Mall was a different world two years apart

I went back to the Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights last week for the first time since 2022. The big fountain in the middle of the food court, the one with the tile mosaic, was totally dry and filled with dead leaves back then. Now, it's completely sealed over with plywood and someone has spray-painted a giant sad face on it. The change hit me hard because that's where my friends and I used to toss pennies and make wishes after school. It went from being a forgotten thing to something people actively marked as gone. Has anyone else seen a spot in a mall that got 'closed' in a really final way like that?

That's honestly really sad to see. It feels like a physical sign that a place is really over, not just quiet. I get why it hit you hard, those little spots held a lot of memories.

My friend saw the old arcade at Westgate boarded up with a "no trespassing" sign spray-painted over the door.
