The floor gave way under me at the old Galleria in Cleveland
I was walking through the food court area of this dead mall near Cleveland last month when a tile just cracked and my right foot went straight through. Turns out there was a leaky pipe underneath that had rotted the subfloor for years. I had to pull my leg out, covered in gross black water, and the whole mall security guy just shook his head and said "yeah that happens every few months." Anyone else ever have something collapse or break while you were exploring?

That mall security guy didn't even flinch. Sounds like a major lawsuit waiting to happen if someone smaller or older goes through that floor. Rust belt malls are falling apart faster than people want to admit. Did you at least get any free food court coupons for your trouble?

Nah @nelson.gavin, I actually see it the other way. Those old places are a genuine safety hazard, but that security guy probably just knows there's no money to fix it right and is tired of pretending otherwise. A lawsuit might be the only thing that forces the owner to actually deal with the rot instead of patching it.

Wait, did that change your mind too? I was totally on the "security guy is useless" train before but you're right, he's probably just sick of pretending everything's fine when it's clearly not.
