That vintage arcade I spent $80 on at the old Evergreen Mall
Picked up a broken Galaga machine from the closed-down arcade near the food court three months ago. Spent another $60 on replacement boards and it still won't boot past the title screen. Anyone else get burned buying old mall junk thinking you could fix it?

I paid $80 for a non-working Galaga machine last year and don't regret it one bit. The cabinet was solid and the artwork was in good shape, just had a bad power supply and a couple of loose connections. Spent about $30 on parts and a Saturday afternoon with a multimeter, and now it runs like a champ. If someone doesn't want to put in the work or doesn't know how to fix these things, I get why they'd laugh at the price. But for those of us who enjoy the repair side of the hobby, an $80 project machine is a steal compared to paying $800 or more for a working one.
