Shoutout to the teenager who corrected me on food court fountain placement

I was taking photos at the old Burien Mall last Saturday, and this kid walks up while I'm lining up a shot of the empty food court. He goes "you know the fountains were always on the wrong side right?" and I laughed him off. But then he showed me an old mall map from 1987 where the main fountain was actually tucked near the escalators, not the center like everyone pictures. Now I see people posting pics from that spot calling it the "main fountain area" and it bugs me every time, because that was just a planter. Has anyone else found old mall maps that totally disprove the way we remember things?

Notice how our brains will rearrange entire rooms to match what we expect, rather than what was really there. It's the same way people swear the old grocery store had the milk in the back corner when it was actually right by the registers. We build these little fake memories around objects that mattered to us, and a kid with a piece of paper can tear the whole thing down.

The one time I remembered a room wrong it was just me being too tired to care.
