My old mall buddy's comment about the carousel hit me sideways last week

We walked the empty food court in Tysons Corner and he said the best part wasn't the stores, it was hearing the carousel music echo with nobody there. Made me realize I've been chasing the decay for the photos, not the silence. Anyone else feel weird when you stop treating these places like a photoshoot?

Guilty as charged. I once drove two hours to shoot an abandoned Kmart and spent the whole time trying to get the perfect angle on a shopping cart, only to realize I never actually looked at the building itself. These days I'm learning to just stand there and let the quiet do the talking, even if it means my photo album is full of blurry ceiling tiles.
