Just realized the food court at Rolling Acres in Akron lost its last spot in 2016 and the fountain went dry years before that
I dug up two pics of the same food court at Rolling Acres Mall in Akron, one from around 2004 and one from 2017, and the difference hit me. In 2004 there was still an Orange Julius and a pretzel stand, maybe five spots open, and the coin fountain had water in it with kids tossing pennies. By 2017 every gate was down except one, the fountain was a dry concrete pit full of trash, and the skylights had gone brown so the whole room looked dirty even at noon. What caused it was simple, the anchors left one by one, first the big department store in 2008, then the other one a couple years later, and once people had no reason to walk through, the food spots died too. I remember grabbing a slice there with my mom and the guy behind the counter knew her order. Last time I peeked through the glass it smelled like old carpet and there was a single plastic chair sitting in the middle of the tile. Does anyone have older shots of that fountain before the water got shut off? I want to know what year they pulled the plug.
