Hot take: spending $80 on a good respirator was the smartest call I ever made for mall exploring

We were in the basement of the old Sunrise Mall, and the dust was so thick you could taste it. That mask saved my lungs from what felt like a decade of mold and fiberglass. Anyone else have a piece of gear they won't explore without?

Stop it with the barehanded thing, that makes my skin crawl. I saw a guy once try to catch himself on a rusty pipe with his bare palm and it sliced him open to the bone, needed like twenty stitches. Heavy duty gloves are the only way to go, especially if you're grabbing anything in a place that's been rotting for years. You never know what's coated on those surfaces either, could be anything from mouse droppings to old chemical residue.

Did you find any old coupons down there, or just lung damage?

Sunrise Mall basement sounds like a nightmare. My must-have is a pair of heavy duty gloves, the kind with the rubber coating. I grabbed a doorframe in an old factory and a huge splinter went right through my old knit gloves. Now I won't touch anything without that rubber layer. What kind of gloves do you use, or do you just go barehanded?
