Finally got a clear photo of the old carousel at Century III Mall

I used to just snap quick pictures with my phone and hope for the best, but last week I brought a tripod and waited 20 minutes for the sun to hit the mirrors just right. The detail on the hand-painted horses came out way clearer than I expected, and it felt like seeing the mall the way it was in the 80s. Does anyone else bring special gear to get better shots of the old spots, or do you just go with whatever you have on you?

The THING is that's actually Century III West, not the original. The old mall carousel was dismantled in '88.

Oh man, you are totally right, I forgot about that! I remember hearing something about the original one getting taken down way back. That makes me feel a little less crazy because I went to the Century III West one last month and was like "wait, this doesn't look quite right" but just figured my memory was fuzzy. It's funny how even the replica carousels still have that same feeling though, like you're stepping back in time for a second. I did the same thing with a tripod and some golden hour light at the old Monroeville Mall food court fountain last fall, spent a good 45 minutes trying to get the water droplets to sparkle just right against the tile.
