A dead mall in Kansas had 43 working payphones in 2008, and that number surprised me more than the stores closing
I was digging through old photos of the Metcalf South mall near Overland Park and found a directory from 2008 listing 43 payphone banks. Some people say those phones stuck around as a weird lifeline for folks without cell plans, while others think they were just forgotten relics nobody bothered to rip out. I lean toward the forgotten part, but honestly I am not sure. Did anyone here ever stop and actually use one of those things during a mall trip?
